Coaching 2023 Review

Another year ticks by and another storming year for our coaching section. Join us for a quick month by month review of 2023.



Jan / Feb


Saxmundham successful in application to join LTA Youth Girls Programme.

This important national, multi-year programme for girls' tennis was launched in October 2022 with Amazon Prime Video and the LTA aiming to to inspire thousands of girls to pick up a racket and play tennis.




March


Fantastic afternoon on Sunday 12th March 2023, as we hosted a 14 and under Tennis Grand Prix event. We welcomed 14 players from across Suffolk, travelling in all directions from clubs including Lowestoft, Stowmarket and Newmarket, plus two of our own players, Linus and Louis.




April


Tennis Clinic launches, a brand new Adult group coaching session which runs in the Spring and Summer 10am Saturday mornings. Session where each player brings something about their our game they would like to improve on and as a group we'll talk through it and go through a couple of drills and games to work on this.



This session will return in the new year.


May


Our club Big Tennis Weekend - otherwise known as our open day - took place on the weekend of Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st May 2023 and drew a crowd of some 90 newcomers and members.




June / July


Conclusion of our year long 'Project Restart' programme in thanks to funding from the Suffolk Community Foundation. Helped re-establishing strong links with the schools that we’re partly broken over Covid. Schools this was delivered at we’re Saxmundham Primary, Kelsale Primary, Saxmundham Free School and Alde Valley. In total, 335 children took part in the coaching (160 male and 175 female).



August


Another sizzling summer of Tennis Camps with ten camps delivered in August with over 100 children signing up. Tennis Camps are for ages 4-14 running 9:30-3:30 during half terms and summer breaks.



September


On a lovely September morning saw the climax of this years Box League which had seen 56 entrants do battle across five different categories. First ball hit in anger was way back in April, with finalists qualifying from group matches and semi finals throughout the Spring and Summer to get to yesterdays Final.





October

Cardio Tennis returned in force with a much needed revamp to restimulate numbers. Now back up and running and stronger than ever, our weekly fitness class runs every Thursday 6-7pm.



Novemeber/December

Successful application with the Stimulus Fund to run our Youth Red and Orange (u9s) groups indoors during the winter months.
