Precision and power as demonstrated by Ian and Anthony

Saxmundham Men's 1st team has extended its superb start to the season with a second win and a first away win, beating the Adastral Park Men's 1st team 6-2 in an exciting away match on Thursday 18 November 2021, writes team captain Matthew Last.

Ian Portal made his Men's 1st debut, taking the place of the absent Chris (who demonstrated poor commitment by choosing not to take the short journey back from New York for the match... meanwhile, Ian must have appeared somewhat dodgy, having been escorted to the courts by onsite security staff!)

After making his entrance, Ian very quickly followed his debut for the 1st team gaining the first set, then going on to win the second. The first set certainly could have gone either way with the pairing of Ian and Anthony Tolman trailing most the way until fighting back with Anthony's power and Ian's precision to win the two sets 6-4, 6-2.

The other pairing was myself and Ewan Threadkell. We were also in no mood to stick around, flying out of the traps in clinical fashion to seal the first set to love, however after making it seven games in a row the game very quickly turned on its head with the solid Adastral pair winning six in a row with some flawless tennis, to take the set 6-1.

This left the score at the halfway stage 3-1 to Sax.

The second half roughly mirrored the first, with myself and Ewan being pushed hard in the first set to then win the second fairly comfortably to convert us to victory.

Anthony and Ian would be pushed even harder, and just about clinched their first set 7-5, before succumbing to a 6-2 defeat in the final set. The final result saw us come out as 6-2 winners, with both pairs winning three sets each.

Next up is a local friendly home game to Framlingham!
